In Japan, possession and use of illegal drugs are crimes.
If you smuggle stimulants or other narcotics into Japan, you may possibly be imprisoned for life.
Cannabis is categorised as “narcotics” starting 12 December 2024, and the punishment is heavier than it used to be.

Imprisonment for up to 10 yrs
Narcotics (possession/use)
Heroin
Imprisonment for up to 10 yrs
Cannabis・Cocaine・MDMA・Ketamine・LSD
Imprisonment for up to 7 yrs
