Criminal cases with a cash reward for information(懸賞広告事件)

The Investigation Special Cash Reward System is designed to advertise a cash reward or valuable information leading to the arrest of the suspect(s) in important and vicious criminal cases selected by the National Police Agency (under the provisions of the Article 529 and 532 of the Civil Law) and pay a cash reward to those who give particularly valuable information.

1　Cases involving specially designated suspects or important suspects on the wanted list, as selected by the National Police Agency
2　Unprecedented or important criminal cases with a high societal impact , which satisfy the following requirements:

• Cases of murder, robbery, arson, intercourse without consent, etc., kidnapping or other case, which caused serious damage to the lives of the victims;
• Cases which caused significant hindrance to the performance of public duty or business activity in any way including intimidation;
• Cases in which an investigative task force was established;
• Cases in which promoting provision of information through advertisement is deemed effective and appropriate, given the nature of the case and investigative findings

3 million yen （If it is found particularly necessary, the amount may be increased up to 10 million yen.）

1 year （If it is found particularly necessary, the period ,be extended or shortened.）

The Commissioner General of the National Police Agency will post a notice on the website of the National Police Agency which describes the designated cases, availability of a cash reward, maximum amount of reward, method for deciding the payment, exempted persons not entitled to payment, and divisions to which information should be provided.

The Investigation Special Cash Reward will be paid to those who give valuable information leading to the arrest of the suspect(s). The amount of money will be decided by the National Police Agency, in proportion to the contribution to the investigation.
If there is more than one recipient, the total amount will be divided amongst them within the limit of maximum amount, in proportion to the contribution of each to the investigation.

3　suspects, their accomplices, and those who we determined, during the course of acquiring information, engaged in criminal acts or harmed the public safety or order, and
4　in addition to those who fall under the categories of 1 to 3, those we consider inappropriate to receive a cash reward under social conventions may not be entitled to the reward

Cases which are intended for the Private Cash Reward are ones advertised for a cash reward other than the Investigation Special Reward System.
