Date and Time of Offense
From around 11 pm on Saturday, December 30, 2000 to dawn on Sunday, December 31, 2000
Place of Offense
Kami-soshigaya 3-chome, Setagaya-ku, Tokyo
North of the victims’ house is the ground for Komazawa University baseball team. West of the victims’ house is Senkawa River. The Metropolitan Soshigaya Park was situated along the east and south side of the house. At the time of offense, the house was in an eviction area for the planned expansion of the park. There were only four houses including the victims’.
We need information from anyone who saw suspicious persons or vehicles while passing by this area, knew of someone who moved on short notice, or went missing.

Case Summary
A family of four was brutally murdered in Kami-soshigaya 3-chome from around 11 pm on Saturday, December 30, 2000 to dawn on Sunday, December 31, 2000.

A total of 130 sweat shirts of this kind were sold in entire Japan until the day of the incident. Out of those sweat shirts, only 10 were sold within Tokyo, at stores in Hachioji, Seiseki-sakuragaoka, Ogikubo, and Aoto.

Length of the belt: 83 centimeters, presumed length of the perpetrator’s waist: 70 to 75 centimeters

Green base with red, black, orange, and dark-blue checks

black, large-sized, and manufactured by UNIQLO
Gloves
black and adjustable
Athletic shoes “Slazenger”
Size: 27.5 centimeters (Japan), Manufactured in South Korea
This is the same sweat shirt (body color: light gray, sleeves: light purple) as the one abandoned by the perpetrator in the victims’ house
It has been revealed that only ten of these sweat shirts were sold within Tokyo.
We have discovered the owner of one. We have been searching for others who may have purchased the other nine.
There were only the four stores at the time of the incident which exclusively sold casual clothes in Tokyo, including this type of sweat shirt:
- “M/X, Seiseki-sakuragaoka Store”, located in front of Seiseki-sakuragaoka Station on Keio Line (3 sweat shirts were sold.)
- “M/X, Hachioji Keio SC Store”, located inside Keio-Hachioji Station Building (2 sweat shirts were sold.)
- “Marufuru Ogikubo Store”, located inside JR Ogikubo Station Buillding (3 sweat shirts were sold.)
- “Marufuru Aoto Store”, located inside Keisei Line Aoto Station Building (2 sweat shirts were sold.)
(M/X and Marufuru are not doing business at present.)
If you have the same kind of this sweat shirt or know someone who does, please let us know.
You may be afraid of reporting this to the police, thinking that if you have this sweat shirt or remember having bought one, you may be treated as a criminal. There is no need to worry about such a thing.The perpetrator took off his sweat shirt and left it at the crime scene.Having the same sweat shirt now would, therefore, prove that you are not the perpetrator.Locating the whereabouts of nine other sweat shirts would directly lead us to identify the perpetrator.

Handkerchief
Two black handkerchief were left at the crime scene.
One handkerchief had a cut in the middle, which was about three centimeters in length. It is believed that the perpetrator let the knife run through this cut, so that he could use the handkerchief as a fallback.
The other handkerchief was folded like a triangle and looked like it was squeezed on edges. It is possible that the perpetrator used it as a mask.
Weapon Used
Yanagiba Kitchen Knife “Seki Magoroku, Ginju”, which is used for cutting fish for sashimi
Perfume detected on the handkerchief, which wrapped the weapon

Provision of Information
The perpetrator sustained injuries on his hands during the commission of the offense. His blood type is A.

do you remember having seen the perpetrator’s clothes or the weapon he used?

Note regarding the cash reward
Payment of reward
A cash reward of up to 20 million yen will be paid by the National Police Agency and the Association for Cooperation in Investigation into the Robbery and Quadruple Murder of a Family in Kamisoshigaya 3-chome to those who give valuable information on this brutal murder case.
If there is more than one recipient, the total amount will be divided amongst them within the limit of maximum amount, in proportion to the contribution of each to the investigation.

1 Persons whose identities are not known, as they prefer to be anonymous
2 Police personnel
3 Suspects, their accomplices, and those who we determined, during the course of acquiring information, engaged in criminal acts or harmed the public safety or order, and
4 In addition to those who fall under the categories of 1 to 3, those we consider inappropriate to receive a cash reward under social conventions may not be entitled to the award
